Everton suffered from some really bad luck in their huge derby against Liverpool where they conceded a late goal to eventually lose. They will have a much less dangerous match coming their way on Wednesday, when they will play host to Newcastle. Newcastle were in really good shape prior to their Saturday match, where they met a really tough loss at home.

Everton (6-4-4) were in really good shape prior to their Merseyside Derby against Liverpool, where tey saw their streak come to an end. They were actually pretty solid in that match and managed to remain competitive for the biggest part. But they eventually conceded a late goal at the 6th minute of the stoppage time to lose by 0-1. Prior to that they were undefeated in four consecutive (3-0-1), and after that loss they are sitting 6th with 22 points, just as many as Manchester United. They have been really strong at home this season (5-1-1), where they also have a draw and a win for the Carabao Cup. They are undefeated in their last five at home in all competitions, winning each of their last three (4-0-1).
Newcastle (3-8-3) did not have a very good time in their own match either, as they suffered a disappointing 3-0 loss at home against West Ham. Its not like they were bad in that match, on the contrary they were pretty good and much better than their opponents. But West Ham took an early lead, defended against Newcastle’s attacks and even doubled that at the hour mark. Newcastle could not do anything of substance and conceded another goal at the stoppage time for the final 3-0. But prior to that they had won three in a row and will now look to brush off that bad result. Newcastle are now sitting at the 15th spot of the league table with 12 points, just three ahead of the relegation zone. They have not been anything special on the road so far (1-2-3), where they have scored 5 goals against 6 conceded.

Everton have also been great as hosts in the past two decades (11-3-4), having won each of the last four and having lost just once since 2003. They will look to build on that history, but Newcastle will also look to bounce back after a tough loss. This looks like a low-scoring match to me, where Everton should have the upper hand.
