It’s the Eastern Conference semi-finals in the MLS on Tuesday, when New England Revolution will play host to New York City. New England were simply spectacular this season, breaking a lot of records and playing really solid soccer. New York City had a lot of ups and downs over the season, but did finish the regular season in a really solid manner.

New England Revolution were undeniably the best team in the regular season, finishing at the top of the Eastern Conference with 73 points and a 22-5-7 record. To put that into perspective, they finished with a 19-point deficit ahead of the 2nd Philadelphia. New England had the best offense with 65 goals and the 5th best defense with 41 goals. They also had the best home record in the Conference (12-2-3), scoring 31 goals (5th best home offense) and conceding 18 in the process (6th best home defense). New England only lost to Toronto and Inter Miami at home this season, but their loss to Inter Miami came in the final match-day, where New England were totally indifferent.

New York City had a very solid first half in the regular season, but they were not very stable at the second half. Even so, they completed the regular season unbeaten in their last 5, and also beat Atlanta United by 2-0 at home in the first round of the playoffs. They scored both goals in the start of the second half and are now through to the Conference semis. New York City finished the regular season at the 4th spot of the Eastern Conference with 51 points (14-11-9), scoring 59 goals (2nd best offense) and conceding 36 in the process (2nd best defense). They were really good at home, but they struggled to get results on the road (4-8-5), scoring just 19 goals and conceding 23 in the process. Moreover, they won just 2 of their last 13 away matches in the regular season (2-7-4).

The two teams met on 3 occasions this season, with New England winning twice (once in each venue) and New York City winning once at home. New England have been quite solid as hosts against New York City over the years (5-2-2), losing just 1 of their last 7 here. Taking the combination of Both Teams to Score & Over 2.5 Goals (-125).
