Argentina did not do a good job in the World Cup and have been really mediocre over the past year or so. They are coming off a tough loss against Brazil in a friendly match and will now look to bounce back. They will play host to Mexico on Friday, who made a good run in the World Cup but have been really bad ever since.

Argentina made a terrible run in the World Cup, especially after starting with a draw against Iceland and a 3-0 loss against Croatia. But they did qualify to the knockout round where they met France. They were destroyed in that match by a tough 3-4 and were eliminated. Since then they have played four friendly matches and have lost just once (2-1-1). They blasted Guatemala by a strong 0-3 at home before a goal-less draw against Colombia on the road. After that they were great in their 0-4 win against Iraq before clashing against Brazil in their last match. They were on track to hold out for a draw in that match but conceded a late goal at the stoppage time to lose by 0-1.
Mexico made an opposite run in the World Cup, despite being eliminated in the same round as Argentina. They made a stunning start when they beat Germany by 1-0 in the first match and doubled that with a nice 2-1 win over South Korea before falling by 0-3 against Sweden in the last match but they had already qualified. Their strong run was cut short by Brazil in the round of 16, where they lost by 0-2 in the details. Mexico have played some really strong friendly matches since then but have lost three in the process (1-3-0). They fell hard by 4-1 at home against Uruguay before another loss against USA, by 0-1. They struggled a bit to overcome Costa Rica by 2-3 in their next match, before losing to Chile by 1-0 at home in their most recent.

Argentina have dominated this match-up over the years, losing just 5 of 32 matches in all competitions (13-5-14). This match-up traditionally features a lot of goals, at least in recent years, with each of the last five having featured Over 2.5 Goals. I will reluctantly take the Over 2.25 Goals in this match, where Argentina should have the upper hand regarding the win.
