Southampton are making huge efforts in order to avoid the relegation this season. They are coming off another win, their second in a row, but they will probably have a tough time making in three in a row when they will host Liverpool on Friday. Liverpool are chasing Manchester City at the top of the standings and will probably not stop until they reach them.

Southampton (8-14-9) are coming off a really dull and mediocre match on the road against Brighton. But they were a bit more lucky in that match and scored the only goal at the 53rd minute, to eventually won by 1-0. That was their second win in a row and third in their last four. Southampton are now 16th in the league table with 33 points, five ahead of the relegation zone. Liverpool (24-1-7) struggled mightily to beat Tottenham at home over the weekend, but they managed to do it. It did take an opponent own goal at the stoppage time, but Liverpool got the job done and grabbed all three points. They are still 2nd in the Premier League with 79 points, just one behind Manchester City. Needless to say that they are coming into this match looking for nothing other than a win in order to keep their hopes alive.
