Two teams that are currently sitting inside the playoff spots, and are just one point apart from each other, will lock horns on Wednesday when Real Salt Lake will host the LA Galaxy. Real Salt Lake have not been very good lately, while the LA Galaxy have been firing in all cylinders lately.
The LA Galaxy (15-13-3) were really strong in their home match against Montreal, eventually winning by 1-2. That was their second consecutive win, scoring nine goals in that span, but prior to that they were win-less in five (0-3-2). The LA Galaxy are now sitting at the 4th spot of the Western Conference with 48 points, one ahead of Real Salt Lake and one behind Minnesota United. They have been mediocre on the road (4-9-2) and quite bad lately, losing seven of their last eight (0-7-1).
Real Salt Lake (14-12-5) are coming off a blank draw on the road against New England, in a match where both teams struggled to get shots on the opposing target. Real Salt Lake have not been very good lately, winning just two of their last six matches (2-3-1). They are currently sitting at the 5th spot of the Western Conference with 47 points, one behind the LA Galaxy and two ahead of FC Dallas. Their home record is the 2nd best in the Conference (11-3-1) and they have won four of the last five there.
The LA Galaxy beat Real Salt Lake by 1-2 at home earlier in the season and there is now balance in the last five matches between the two (2-2-1). However, Real Salt Lake have been tremendous as hosts against the LA Galaxy in recent years, losing just once in the last ten matches here (5-1-4). The two teams have a knack for scoring goals and we might be looking at another high-scoring match here.
