Two teams that are coming off opposite results in the US Open Cup will now clash for the MLS, when San Jose will play host to LAFC on Saturday. San Jose easily fell on the road against the Timbers and are now on a bad losing streak. LAFC have struggled a lot in the MLS lately, but managed to record a slim win in the US Open Cup.
The San Jose Earthquakes (2-8-3) were pretty unlucky with the draw in the US Open Cup, as they were matched against the Timbers. They lost by 0-2 in Portland and were eventually eliminated. That was their fourth consecutive loss in all competitions, as San Jose have now won just once since early March. They are now sitting at the 10th spot of the Western Conference with 9 points, having scored 19 goals so far, while conceding 25 in the process. They haven't been any better at home so far (1-3-1), where they have conceded multiple goals on four of those matches.
LAFC (6-4-3) had a much easier job in the US Open Cup against Fresno, whom they defeated by 0-2 at home. However, LAFC have been suffering lately due to the absences to key players ahead of the World Cup. Things are not going to get any better over the next month as long as the World Cup is running. LAFC are currently sitting at the 4th spot of the Western Conference with 21 points, just one point behind the 3rd Real Salt Lake. They have the best away record in the Western Conference (4-4-0), where they have scored 18 goals against 17 conceded.
