Frankfurt have been far from what they were last season, as they sold off most of their high-quality players. This season they tried to make things work but are severely under-performing. They will now have a tough task in their return to action, as they will host Gladbach on Saturday.
Gladbach (15-6-4) were really great before the lockdown, as they were having a really strong season overall. They only lost one of their last seven matches in all competitions (4-1-2) but failed to keep a single clean sheet in that span. They are sitting at the 4th spot of the league table with 49 points, two ahead of Bayer Leverkusen, one behind RB Leipzig and two behind Dortmund. Gladbach have been quite solid on the road so far (6-4-2) but won just two of their last six away matches in all competitions (2-2-2).
Frankfurt (8-12-4) were caught up in multiple competitions this season and really tried to make things work. They have already reached the semi-finals of the German Cup and were fighting in the round of 16 of the Europa League before all this happened. But that has taken a toll on their Bundesliga efforts this season, as they are sitting at the 12th spot of the league table with 28 points, just six ahead of the red line. They only won two of their last seven matches in all competitions, but those wins came in the Europa League and the Cup (2-4-1). Even so, they are always quite competitive at home (6-3-3), where they won five of their last seven matches in all competitions.
Gladbach won by 2-4 at home earlier in the season and have been quite solid in this match-up in recent years (4-2-5 since 2015). Moreover, they have stood greatly in this venue in the past decade or so, losing just two of their last 10 matches here (5-2-3). Frankfurt do have a very strong presence at home, but they will have no fans to cheer them up here.
