Following a thrilling round of midweek fixtures, Germany’s Bundesliga returns this weekend with another jam-packed schedule for us to bet on. Bayern Munich took a big step towards securing an eighth consecutive title with a hard-fought victory over Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday. But how will the big guns fare this time around?
Let’s get stuck into my best bets for Matchday 29 of the 2019/20 Bundesliga season.
Hertha Berlin vs. Augsburg – 05/30/20
Hertha have been in red-hot form since the season resumed. The capital club returned with a 3-0 victory over Hoffenheim before thrashing cross-city rivals Union 4-0. In their previous game, Hertha came from behind to snatch an impressive draw against RB Leipzig. On the other hand, Augsburg have only managed one win since the restart and were held to a goalless draw by bottom club Paderborn last time out. Hertha are enjoying a revival under new manager Bruno Labbadia, and I’m expecting the revival to continue this weekend. Odds of 2.25 for Hertha to win with two or more goals seem too good to miss.
Pick: Hertha Berlin to Win and Over 1.5 Goals – 2.25
Borussia Monchengladbach vs. Union Berlin – 05/31/20
Gladbach’s dreams of qualifying for next season’s Champions League are still very much alive following a strong resumption to the campaign. Despite losing to top-four rivals Bayer Leverkusen last weekend, Gladbach claimed a comfortable win over Eintracht Frankfurt before picking up a point against Werder Bremen. Meanwhile, Union are in freefall after failing to win any of their games since the restart. Defeats to Bayern Munich and Hertha were followed by a draw with Mainz. Union are now just four points clear of the bottom three. Given the contrasting form of these two teams, I’m backing Gladbach to win both halves.
Pick: Borussia Monchengladbach to Win Half Time/Full Time – 2.20
Paderborn vs. Borussia Dortmund – 05/31/20
Home wins have been in short supply since Bundesliga returned. Due to the games being played behind closed doors, smaller clubs aren’t able to feed of their supporters. For that reason, I can see Paderborn struggling immensely against Dortmund on Sunday. Paderborn remain bottom of the table and look destined for relegation. At the other end of the standings, Dortmund are second and have been scoring goals for fun. Dortmund have scored over 3.5 goals on nine separate occasions this season, and I think they will take that tally to ten this weekend.
Pick: Borussia Dortmund to Win and Over 3.5 Goals – 2.30
