Bayern Munich comfortably won the Bundesliga, and are now looking to make the double. They will only have to overcome a very feisty Frankfurt side, whom they will be meeting at the German Cup final on Saturday.
Frankfurt were actually inside the top-six spots of the Bundesliga for the bigger part of the season, but they somewhat deflated towards the end. They won just two of their last eight matches (2-5-1), and eventually finished at the 8th spot with 49 points, four behind the spots that grant entrance to the Europa League next season. They still have a chance to do so though, as capturing the Cup would grant them a wild-card for next season. Frankfurt also reached the Cup final last season, where they eventually lost to Dortmund by 2-1.
Bayern Munich had mathematically captured the Bundesliga since quite a while now, and they had shifted their focus on the Champions League. However, they were unable to overcome Real Madrid in the semi-finals, where they were eliminated by 4-3 on aggregate. In their final league match of the season, Bayern Munich suffered quite an unexpected loss at home against Stuttgart, who did great to defeat them by 4-1. Even so, everyone at Bayern Munich were getting ready for the Cup final, where they will look for their fourth such title in the last six years.
