Villarreal are coming off a bad loss at home against Manchester United in the Champions League, and they are now up against another tough task, as they will host Barcelona on Saturday. Barcelona saw their qualifying hopes diminish mid-week, as they played for an unfavorable draw at home against Benfica.

Villarreal (3-3-7) played a scared match against Manchester United mid-week, clearly hoping for a draw, but Manchester United scored twice in the second half and forced them to a loss. Last week, Villarreal played for a 1-1 draw against Celta Vigo on the road, and they have been in mediocre form lately, winning just 2 of their last 7 matches in all competitions (2-3-2). Villarreal are now sitting at the 12th spot of the La Liga with 16 points, scoring 15 and conceding 13 goals in the process. They have been quite hard to beat at home so far (3-1-2), scoring 11 and conceding 6 goals in the process. Villarreal have scored in all 5 La Liga matches at home but kept just 2 clean sheets in the process.

Barcelona (5-3-5) are coming off a goal-less draw at home against Benfica in the Champions League, and now need a combination of results in order to reach the knock-out stage. Last week they beat Espanyol by 1-0 at home in the local derby, which was the debut of new coach Xavi Hernandez. Despite their overall struggles this season, Barcelona are unbeaten in their last 5 matches in all competitions (2-0-3). Barca are now sitting at the 7th spot of the La Liga with 20 points, scoring 20 goals and conceding 15 in the process. However, they have yet to win on the road (0-2-3), scoring a mere 4 goals and conceding 7 in the process.

Barcelona won both matches against Villarreal last season, by 4-0 at home and by 2-1 on the road. They have now won each of the last 4 and are unbeaten in the last 26 matches against them. Moreover, Barcelona are unbeaten in their last 14 matches in this venue (9-0-5). This season is different though, as they are missing Lionel Messi. Despite their struggles, Barcelona look much better under the new coach and should have the upper hand here.
