Everton FC at Southampton FC 10/1/22 - Premier League Picks & Predictions

The Southampton Saints host the Everton Toffees on Oct. 1 for the 47th Premier League match between these two teams. Everton has 20 victories in the series to Southampton’s 14, and there have been 12 draws.

The Saints won the last meeting, 2-0, at home in February, while the Toffees were a 3-1 winner at home in the first match last season in August.

Southampton’s last match was a 1-0 loss at Aston Villa on Sept. 16. Jacob Ramsey’s goal came in the 41st minute as he kicked in the rebound from a fantastic save by Saints’ keeper Gavin Bazunu. The win gave Villa seven points to tie Southampton. The clubs also have the same goal differential, but the Saints have more goals and are spot better than Villa at 14th in the league table.

Everton got its first win of the Premiere League season with a 1-0 victory over West Ham United on Sept. 18. Neal Maupay scored his first goal for the Toffees after debuting Sept. 3. Alex Iwobi got the assist on the goal scored in the 53rd minute. Everton is 13th in the league table with a -1 goal differential compared to -4 for both Southampton and Villa.

Ché Adams leads the Saints with two goals, while five players are tied with one each. Seven players are tied with one assist. Bazunu has 17 saves for the year but does not have a clean sheet with 11 total goals allowed.

Anthony Gordon is Everton’s leading score with two goals. Maupay and Demarai Gray have a goal apiece. Iwobi leads the tem with two assists.

This should be a competitive match although not an especially exciting one. Southampton gets a slight edge as the home team but will need to produce more scoring chances than the one shot on target it got against Aston Villa. Against three common opponents – Aston Villa, Chelsea and Leeds – Southampton has gone 1-1-1, while Everton has a draw and two losses. Both tied Leeds and lost to Aston Villa, but Southampton beat Chelsea 2-1 at home, while Everton lost 1-0 on the home pitch. We like the Saints to win a close one. Final Score Prediction: Southampton wins 2-1.
