After back to back draws, Barcelona returned to winning ways against Villarreal but their title chances have diminished. They will now play host to Espanyol on Wednesday, for the 172nd Barcelona Derby, as the two teams reside in the city of Barcelona. Espanyol have been really awful this season and they will most likely be relegated.

Barcelona (22-5-7) were really effective in their away match against Villarreal, where they scored three first-half goals to reach an easy 4-1 away win. They are undefeated in their last eight matches but have three draws in their last five. That means that they are still 2nd in the league table with 73 points, now four points behind Real Madrid and the top spot. Barcelona have been fearsome at home (15-0-2), scoring 50 goals and conceding just 14 in the process.

Espanyol (5-20-9) have been really bad after the restart, and that’s an understatement. They are coming off another loss, this time by 1-0 at home against Leganes. They came off the break with four points in their first two matches but then lost five in a row, scoring just once in the process. It is no wonder they are still stuck at the bottom of the league table with 24 points, 11 points below the red line. Oddly enough, they have grabbed 13 of their 24 points on the road (3-10-4).
