One of the most exciting derbies in Germany is, without a doubt, the River Derby, or the so-called Ruhr Derby between Schalke and Dortmund. The two teams will now clash against one another on Saturday with Schalke playing host. You might remember a stellar 4-4 draw between the two sides last season, where Schalke came back from four goals behind to hold out for a draw.

Schalke (4-7-2) could not be hoping for more from their away match against Hoffenheim over the weekend, where they split the points in a 1-1 draw. Schalke have not been in the best of forms lately, having won just one of their last four matches in all competitions (1-2-1). But they have been playing in the Champions League too this season, where they actually qualified from their group. They are now sitting at the 12th spot of the Bundesliga with 14 points, just three ahead of the relegation zone. They have been hit or miss at home so far in the league (3-3-0), where they also have a win and a draw for the Champions League. Dortmund (10-0-3) did not have to spend a lot of resources in their home match against Freiburg on Saturday, whom they beat by a comfortable 0-2. In their previous match they played for a goal-less draw against Club Brugge that saw them through to the next round of the Champions League. Back to the Bundesliga, Borussia Dortmund are still sitting at the top of the league table with 33 points, seven ahead of Borussia Gladbach. Moreover, Dortmund are the only team to not have lost on the road so far in the league (4-0-2), but they also have a win, a loss and a draw in other competitions.
