Denmark vs. Finland 6/12/21 - Euro Cup Picks & Predictions

Denmark opens its Euro 2020 Group B campaign on Saturday in Copenhagen in Parken Stadium against Finland. These two have not played since 2011. Denmark is one of the favorites to win Group B. The Danes have lost just two of their last 15 matches. Denmark is unbeaten in each of its last five matches and last lost in November to Belgium 4-2. Denmark has conceded just three goals in its last 10 matches on its home soil.

Denmark has the best defensive record of any qualifying sides since September of 2018. Christian Eriksen is the key to Denmark’s success and is coming off a strong campaign with Inter Milan. Eriksen will take both free kicks and penalties and has 13 goals in international play over the last 24 appearances. Eriksen will play alongside Inter teammate Lukaku.

Finland arrives in Copenhagen for its first major tournament in history. The likelihood of the Finns moving beyond the group stage is remote, but stranger things have happened. Finland has two draws and four losses over its most recent six matches. Teemu Pukki will lead the Finnish attack, but the Finns could find it hard to score against a rather tough Denmark backline.

While Denmark has the best defensive unit in the Cup, Finland has 13 clean sheets over his last 24 matches, which means a low scoring match is likely in the cards. Finland coaches will worry about top attacker Pukki who is coming off an extended time sidelined with an injury. Tim Sparv returns as the captain for Finland and gives the club a big emotional boost.

Dating back to 1986, Denmark is perfect against Finland, with the most recent  match a 2-1 victory. In all but two of the head-to-head meetings between Denmark and Finland, Denmark has posted clean sheets. Over the past 18 years when playing head-to-head Denmark has allowed only one goal to Finland. Denmark arrives with a five-match unbeaten run including four wins and will continue that strong play with a victory on Saturday. Final Score Prediction, Denmark wins 2-0
