Besides their struggles in the MLS, the Sounders were also eliminated from the US Open Cup to a USL side. They will now look to turn their season around when they will play host to another struggling side on Saturday, DC United. DC United also struggled in the US Open Cup but eventually managed to defeat North Carolina.

Prior to that elimination to Sacramento Republic, the Sounders had three consecutive losses in the MLS without even scoring a single goal. They have been equally bad at home so far (1-3-1), where they have scored just 3 goals, against 4 conceded. DC United (2-5-3) are coming off a positive result in the 4th round of the US Open Cup. They played host to USL side North Carolina on Tuesday, and after a getting equalized at the 83rd minute the match went to extra time and eventually to the penalty shoot-out. DC United were luckier (4-3) and eventually moved to the next round. They have also encountered similar problems to the Sounders so far, as they are sitting at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with just 9 points after 10 matches. Their schedule has been pretty brutal so far, as they have played 8 of their 10 matches on the road (1-5-2).
