Colorado Rapids at Portland Timbers 9/15/21 - MLS Picks & Predictions

A very interesting match in the Western Conference is about to take place on Wednesday, when the Portland Timbers will play host to the Colorado Rapids. Portland are coming off a nice winning streak but are not sitting safely inside the playoff spots. Colorado are also coming off a nice streak and they are just 3 points behind the top spot in the West.

Portland (10-10-3) were lucky to beat Vancouver by 1-0 on the road last week, thanks to an own goal. Even so, they have now won 3 in a row, all on the road, all with clean sheets and all against solid home teams (Vancouver, Seattle, Houston). Portland are now sitting at the 5th spot of the Western Conference with 33 points, scoring 32 and conceding 39 goals. They are just 2 points above Minnesota and 3 points above Real Salt Lake and LAFC. The Timbers have not been anything special at home overall (6-3-1) but they have lost just 1 of their last 5 there (3-1-1).

Colorado (12-4-6) fought hard in their home match against the LA Galaxy, taking the lead at the 66th minute but they were equalized at the 80th minute for the final 1-1 draw. Even so, they are now unbeaten in their last 8 (5-0-3) and they have lost just 1 of their 13 matches since late June (7-1-5). The Rapids have climbed to the 3rd spot of the Western Conference with their 42 points, now just 1 point behind Kansas and 3 points behind Seattle. They have really improved on the road this season and they have the 3rd best away record in the Conference (6-3-2), while going unbeaten in their last 5 away matches (4-0-1).
