Two teams that are coming off completely opposite results in the US Open Cup will clash for the MLS on Saturday. Houston destroyed the semi-professional side of NTX Rayados, and they will now play host to the Colorado Rapids. Colorado failed to overcome USL side Nashville SC just like we predicted and continued their losing streak.
Houston (5-5-3) had absolutely no problems in overcoming minnows NTX Rayados in the US Open Cup, whom they obliterated by 0-5. Houston have been pretty stable so far in the season but had lost each of their previous two. Those losses forced them to drop outside of the playoff spots, as they are now sitting at the 7th spot with 18 points. They are two points behind Vancouver, and three points behind Portland and LAFC. They have been solid at home so far (4-2-0), where they have scored at least three goals in all their victories.
Colorado (2-8-2) just can’t get it right this season and are coming off a humiliating loss. They were hosted by USL side Nashville SC in the 4th round of the US Open Cup, where they met a tough 0-2 loss. Despite the disgrace of bowing out to a lower-tier side, the Rapids have now lost eight in a row in all competitions. They are of course sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference with just 8 points after 12 matches. They have been just as tragic on the road so far (0-4-1), having scored just two goals against 11 conceded.
