Chicago Fire vs. New England Revolution 10/9/22 - Major League Soccer Picks & Predictions

The Chicago Fire host the New England Revolution on Sunday in a MLS Eastern Conference fixture that will end the regular season for both. Chicago is 12th in the conference table at 10-8-15 on 38 points with a goal difference of -9. Chicago was a 3-2 winner on the road over FC Cincinnati last Saturday. Jhon Duran scored a brace for Chicago with goals in the 56th and 75th minute and Brian Gutierrez scored in the 59th minute.

Chicago's victory over FC Cincinnati was the sixth time the Fire have scored three goals or more in one match this season. Chicago took 16 points out of the six matches they scored three goals or more with five victories and one draw. Jhon Duran is the leading goal scorer for Chicago with eight, while Xherdan Shaqiri has scored seven. Brian Gutierrez and Shaqiri are the leaders in assists with six each.

New England is 10th in the conference table at 10-11-12 on 41 points with a goal difference of -3. The Revolution cannot make up a five-point deficit to reach the final playoff spot as they have only a possible three points remaining. New England defeated Atlanta United 2-1 last Saturday.  Giacomo Vrioni scored in the 32nd minute for New England and Gustavo Bou scored the winner in the 85th minute for the Revolution.

Last season New England set a new points record with 73 and won the Supporters’ Shield and this season will not play in the playoffs. New England becomes the eighth club in the history of the MLS to win the Supporters’ Shield one season and miss the playoffs the next. Gustavo Bou is the leading goal scorer for New England with eight and Carles Gil is the leader in assists with nine.

New England has two wins and one draw in its last three visits to Soldier Field to play the Chicago Fire. Although New England will not play in the postseason, the Revolution have played better overall this season than Chicago as the Fire have scored fewer goals with 38 than every other club in the MLS except DC United (34). Look for New England to continue its dominance versus Chicago and end its regular season with a victory on the road Sunday. Final Score Prediction, New England Revolution win 3-1.
