One of the four match-ups that are between MLS sides in the round of 32 of the US Open Cup is coming on Wednesday, when Columbus Crew will play host to Chicago Fire. The two teams have already exchanged home wins in the MLS earlier in the season, and Columbus Crew will be looking to repeat their success.
Columbus Crew are coming off a spectacular performance at home against Toronto FC, where they came back from three goals behind to grab a point. Toronto FC were up by 3-0 by the 57th minute, but Columbus scored twice in the final 10 minutes to pull even. They have been in really solid form lately, as they are undefeated in their last eight (4-0-4). Columbus are still sitting at the 3rd spot of the Eastern Conference with 26 points (7-3-5), just three points behind Conference leaders Atlanta United. They have traditionally been strong at home (5-1-2) but have kept just two clean sheets.
Chicago Fire fought really hard in order to record a win over the weekend, when they defeated the San Jose Earthquakes by 1-2 at home. It was a really balanced match between the two sides, but Chicago were somewhat luckier. Despite the win, they have been really inconsistent all season and have won just two of their last five (2-3-0). Chicago are sitting at the 8th spot of the Eastern Conference with 17 points (5-7-2), two points behind Orlando City and the playoff spots. They have not been very bad on the road so far (2-3-1), where they have only failed to score once, and have scored twice in three of those.
