Charlotte FC vs. New York City FC 9/10/22 - Major League Soccer Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 09/09/2022 at 8:08 PM ET

Charlotte FC hosts New York City FC on Saturday in a MLS Eastern Conference fixture. Charlotte is 12th in the conference table at 10-2-17 on 32 points with a goal difference of -12. Charlotte was defeated by FC Cincinnati 2-0 last time out. Charlotte appears to be fading from any possibility of reaching the postseason with a 2-7-0 record over the most recent nine matches in MLS action.

Charlotte FC has lost three consecutive matches, which is the first time the first-year club has done that since the opening three matches of the season. Charlotte has also been held scoreless in two consecutive matches for the first time since its first two matches this season. Karol Swiderski is the leading goal scorer for Charlotte with eight, while Benjamin Bender is the leader in assists with six.

New York City FC is fourth in the conference table at 13-7-10 on 46 points with a goal difference of +13. New York City FC was held at home to a 1-1 draw by FC Cincinnati on Wednesday night. New York City FC’s Thiago Martins had an own-goal in the 22nd minute to give Cincinnati a 1-0 lead but Gabriel Pereira scored an equalizer in the 41st minute and the home club was able to salvage one point.

New York City FC has just one victory over its last nine matches in the MLS  with two draws and six losses. The five points NYCFC has taken over that span is the fewest the club has taken in any span of nine matches since 2015. Heber and Gabriel Pereira are the leading goal scorers for NYCFC with seven, while Santiago Rodriguez is the leader in assists with 10.

Charlotte defeated New York City FC in the only previous match between the two 3-1 on August 17. However, the Miami Fusion was the last expansion side to beat a defending MLS Cup champion two times in the same year back in 1998. Charlotte has struggled of late losing three consecutive matches and although New York City FC is going through a tough stretch, look for the club to take all three points on the road. Final Score Prediction, New York City FC wins 2-0.
