The time has come for the 2019 edition of the Copa America which takes place in Brazil. The hosts, and eight-time winners, Brazil will start their duties with a theoretically easy match against Bolivia on Friday. Bolivia are much weaker than the hosts and will probably have a bad time in the premiere.

Brazil have hosted this tournament on four previous occasions, and have captured the trophy every single time. During those tournaments, Brazil won the opening match three times and drew the other one. They have never lost the opening match in a Copa America against a CONMEBOL side (11-0-3) and have never lost to Bolivia outside of Bolivia (16-0-2). Moreover, they have scored 77 goals in such matches, an average of 4.28 goals per match, and conceded just eight in the process. Bolivia are coming into this match in pretty terrible form, having lost each of their last three matches and having won just once in their last 16 matches in all competitions (1-8-7). They failed to score in nine of those matches and scored the first goal on just one occasion. Moreover, Bolivia have had tough luck in Copa America openers in the past, winning just one of their last 14 such matches (1-5-8). Oddly enough, it was against Brazil, but at the altitude of La Paz.

Brazil had some bad news with the injury to Neymar but they have such a stacked team that they will surely find ways to replace him. The last time these two sides met was a goal-less draw in Bolivia for the World Cup Qualifiers, but Brazil had already qualified at that point. The hosts always like to start the tournaments on a positive note, so I expect them to cover the spread here.
