Belgium at Switzerland 11/18/18 - UEFA Nations League Picks & Predictions

Belgium did their duty against a much weaker Iceland side on Thursday and recorded a professional win that put them at the helm of their group. They would like at least a draw from their last match in Switzerland on Sunday, with the hosts looking only for a win. Switzerland did not look very good in their friendly match against Qatar in their friendly match but they did protect a lot of players there.

Switzerland (2-1-0) looked unstoppable in their first match of the competition when they destroyed Iceland by a massive 0-6 at home. They were in for a hard time in Belgium in their second match, where they actually remained quite competitive - they only conceded a late goal to lose by 1-2. Switzerland struggled a bit against Iceland in their last match but managed to come out on top by 2-1. They are now 2nd in the group with 6 points, three behind Belgium, and need the three points in order to overthrow Belgium. And they are usually much stronger at home than they are on the road. Belgium (3-0-0) wanted to win by at least two goals against Switzerland in order to safely sit at the top of Group A2 in the UEFA Nations League. They were missing Lukaku and De Bruyne in that match but still managed to safely secure what they needed. Iceland were also missing their two best players, but Belgium had to score two second-half goals in order to win by 0-2. That win brought them to the top of the group with 9 points and a +6 goal difference. Switzerland are 2nd with 6 points and also have a +6 goal difference. This means that Belgium can retain the top spot of the group even with a draw in this match.

Switzerland have been quite competitive at home against Belgium over the years (2-1-1) and will now look to add to that record. Belgium have always scored in this venue and now have the best team they’ve ever had. Even with their absences they can easily avoid the loss in this match. Unless an upset occurs, Belgium can safely move to the next round.
