Bayern Munich will be hoping that the lockdown hasn’t totally ruined their form, as they were in great shape prior to the break. They will now return to action on Sunday, when they will be hosted by Union Berlin.
Union Berlin (9-13-3) suffered a couple of bad back-to-back 1-3 away losses before the break, once for the Bundesliga and once for the German Cup. But prior to that they had lost just one of their last five matches in all competitions. They are sitting at the 12th spot of the league table with 30 points, seven above the relegation zone with one less match. Union Berlin have been hit or miss at home so far (6-5-1). Interestingly enough, they have kept clean sheets in five of their six home wins.
Bayern Munich (17-4-4) were having a pretty solid season so far, especially in the past few months before the lockdown. They entered the break having won 14 of their last 15 matches in all competitions (14-0-1) and also kept clean sheets in their last four. Bayern Munich are still leading the Bundesliga with 55 points, just one ahead of Dortmund. They have the best away record in the league (8-2-2) and have won each of their last seven matches.
This will only be the second time these two meet, with Bayern Munich winning by 1-2 at home earlier in the season. Bayern Munich might protect key player Robert Lewandowski in this match, so he might start at the bench. If that is the case, I expect more goals to be scored in the second half.
