Union Berlin are having a pretty awesome season for a club of their magnitude. However, they are now up against a Leverkusen side that is hungry for wins. Bayer Leverkusen did win in the German Cup, but prior to that they were on their first win-less streak of an otherwise stellar season.

Union Berlin (6-2-7) are coming off a balanced 2-2 draw at home against Wolfsburg. Their opponents saw a red card at the start of the second half but did come back to pull even at 2-2. Even so, Union Berlin have JUST TWO LOSSES so far in the season and are undefeated in their last five Bundesliga matches (2-1-2). That’s pretty impressive for a team that rose to the Bundesliga just two seasons ago. They are now sitting at the 5th spot of the Bundesliga with 25 points, scoring 31 and conceding 20 goals in the process.

Bayer Leverkusen (8-2-5) almost suffered another upset, this time in the German Cup, but came back from one goal behind to eventually beat Frankfurt by 1-4 at home. However, they had grabbed just one point in their previous three matches for the Bundesliga (0-2-1). As a result they have dropped to the 3rd spot of the league table with 29 points, four behind league leaders Bayern Munich. Leverkusen have the 2nd best away record (5-1-2), scoring 16 and conceding just six goals in the process.
