Crystal Palace enters its Week 3 Premier League match against Aston Villa as the slight favorite on its home pitch. The Eagles and Villans meet at 10 a.m. (EDT) Saturday.

Crystal Palace is 0-1-1 after securing its first point of the young season with a 1-1 draw at Liverpool in Week 2. Aston Villa arrives at Selhurst Park with a 1-0-1 mark following a 2-1 home win over Everton.

Palace’s only goal vs. Liverpool came on a counterattack in the first half when Eberechi Eze found Wilfried Zaha for a breakaway score. Liverpool was able to a tie and nearly win the game in the second half, however, despite being down a player for the final 40 minutes. Darwin Nunez had been shown a red card for headbutting Joachim Andersen.

Aston Villa led 1-0 at the half against Everton on a goal from Danny Ings in the 31st minute. Emiliano Buendia’s goal in the 86th minute made it 2-0 as Ollie Watkins got his second assist of the match. The Villans had an own goal a minute later but hung on through the final 12 minutes to get the three points.

Palace and Villa have played even over 20 matches with seven victories apiece and six draws. They played to a 1-1 tie in May at Villa Park after the Villans won, 2-1, in November on Palace’s home pitch.

The Eagles finished 12th a year ago, two spots and three points ahead of Villa, with some impressive showings. They took four points off champions Manchester City and scored home wins over Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United.
