Sevilla were in danger of losing it all a few weeks ago, but they have managed to steer the ship lately. They have mathematically ensured that they will play European soccer next season, and they will now play host to Alaves on Saturday, in the final match of the season. Alaves couldn't escape mediocrity this season, but they have been excellent lately.
Sevilla (16-14-7) were this close to being a total bust this season, as they looked unable to handle three competitions at the same time. They did reach the Copa del Rey final where they were destroyed by Barcelona, and were also eliminated at the Champions League quarter-finals by Bayern Munich. As far as the La Liga is concerned, Sevilla sealed the 7th spot that leads to the Europa League qualifiers next season, but they were also in danger of missing out on that. In any case, they had a great reaction in the end of the season.
Alaves (15-20-2) have been really hit or miss so far in the season, with just two draws after 37 matches so far. It's really odd, but it goes to show that Alaves were either winning comfortablyt, or losing badly. They did a great finish in the season with five wins in their last seven matches, also keeping four clean sheets in that span. They have also won each of their last three away matches without conceding, so they will come here looking to make it four in a row.
