In the second game of an NHL season opening doubleheader, the Vegas Golden Knights will visit the Los Angeles Kings. The Golden Knights missed the postseason for the first time in franchise history and hired Bruce Cassidy from Boston to be their new head coach. For the Golden Knights to return to the playoffs, C Jack Eichel (14 goals, 11 assists) will have to stay healthy.
Vegas finished the preseason on a three-game winning streak, capped by a 5-1 home victory versus Arizona on Saturday. C Nicolas Roy scored and assisted on another goal for the Golden Knights.
The Los Angeles Kings had a breakthrough 2021-2022 season and ranked seventh in the league in goals allowed (2.79 GAA). The Kings finished with 99 points and took Edmonton to seven games in the first round of the playoffs before falling by a 2-0 final score. Los Angeles C Adrian Kempe scored a team-high 35 goals and C Phillip Danault was not far behind with 27 goals.
In their preseason finale, Los Angeles raced out to a three-goal lead after one period and cruised to a 6-3 home victory versus Anaheim. RW Arthur Kaliyev tallied a goal and two assists for the Kings.
