Tampa Bay Lightning vs NY Islanders 9/17/20 - NHL Picks & Predictions

The Tampa Bay Lightning and New York Islanders are set to meet in game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals as they will faceoff at Rogers Place in the Edmonton, Canada bubble. The Tampa Bay Lightning will be looking to get back on track after dropping game 5 to the Islanders, 2-1 in double OT. The Lightning were unable to get much scoring generated as they only scored 1 goal, but Victor Hedman was responsible for the lone goal of the game while Blake Coleman and Luke Schenn contributed assist. The Tampa Bay Lightning dominated the New York Islanders in the shot department (37-24), but they were edged out in the faceoff circle (42-34).

The Tampa Bay Islanders were solid at keeping the New York Islanders off the scoreboard as they held them to 2 goals on 24 shots. The Lightning starting goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy had a productive game in the crease as he recorded 22 saves which pushed his postseason save percentage to .930 and GAA to 1.88. The Tampa Bay Lightning were unable to capitalize on the powerplay as they went 0 for 3.

The New York Islanders were able to keep their season alive with a win in double overtime against the Tampa Bay Lightning, 2-1. The New York Islanders were able to receive an early powerplay goal from Ryan Pulock which was assisted by Matt Brazal and Nick Leddy, but the biggest goal of the night came off the stick of Jordan Eberle. The New York Islanders will need to get more shots on goal moving forward, but they were physical as they outhit the Lightning (42-34).

The New York Islanders were very good at keeping the Tampa Bay Lightning off the scoreboard as they held them to 1 goal on 37 shots. The Islanders starting goaltender Semyon Varlamov had a great game in the crease as he recorded 36 saves which pushed his postseason save percentage to .918 and GAA to 2.17. The Islanders were very good on their specialty units as the penalty kill went 3 for 3 while they also scored a powerplay goal.

The Tampa Bay Lightning were unable to close out game 5 against the New York Islanders as Varlamov had an amazing game in the crease, but it is hard for a goaltender to put together back to back performances against a team like Tampa Bay. The Lightning like to put shots on goal and fight down low for a redirection or put back, and the Islanders have pretty much allowed them to do whatever they want as of recent. Tampa Bay has a ton of weapons as Point, Kucherov, and Hedman have continued to tally up points, and I don’t think Varlamov has enough in the tank to shut them down again. Tampa Bay wants to close this series and meet the Dallas Stars in the Stanley Cup, and they do that here with a sense of urgency. Final score Prediction, Tampa Bay Lightning win 4-3.
