New York Rangers at Pittsburgh Penguins 5/9/22 - NHL Picks & Predictions

The New York Rangers visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday for Game 4 of their NHL Eastern Conference first-round best of seven series. New York trails in the series 2-1 following a 7-4 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday. New York pulled starting goalie Igor Shesterkin during the first period after allowing four goals. New York responded with three goals during the second period to even the score at 4-4 but gave up three unanswered goals in the third.

During the postseason, Andrew Copp is the leading goal scorer for New York with three and six others have scored two goals each. The leader in assists is Mika Zibanejad with three while the leader in overall points is Chris Kreider with four. In three playoff games, New York’s power play has scored two goals. Igor Shesterkin is 1-1 with a goals against average of 3.23 and save percentage of .928.

Pittsburgh looks to take a 3-1 lead in the series with a victory at home on Monday. In Saturday's three-goal victory Pittsburgh jumped out to a 4-1 after one period but needed three more goals in the final period to win.  Evan Rodrigues scored two goals and added one assist, while Jeff Carter scored a pair of goals.  Brock McGinn, Danton Heinen and Jake Guentzel each scored one goal. Louis Dominque made 32 saves for the Penguins.

Jake Guentzel is the leading goal scorer for Pittsburgh in the playoffs with four, while Evan Rodrigues and Jeff Carter each have two. Sidney Crosby is the leader in assists with five and Mike Matheson has four. Crosby is the overall points leader with six and three others have four. In goal, Louis Dominque is 2-1 with a goals against average of 4.03 and save percentage of .903.

While the OVER is a solid choice here, the play is Pittsburgh. The Penguins have turned up a notch on the attack evidenced by seven goals on Saturday in Game 3. Pittsburgh has won each of its last five at home and six of the last seven on its home ice against the Rangers. The Rangers have struggled of late losing five of the last seven and New York has dropped each of the last four following a game in which their opponent scored five or more goals the previous game.
