New York Rangers at Carolina Hurricanes 5/20/22 - NHL Picks & Predictions

The New York Rangers play Game 2 of their Eastern Conference semifinals best-of-seven series on the road Friday against the Carolina Hurricanes. New York trails in the series 1-0 following a 2-1 overtime loss to Carolina in Game 1 on Wednesday. New York opened the scoring in the first period with a goal by Filip Chytil but was forced to overtime when Carolina scored to tie in the third period. Igor Shesterkin made 24 saves in goal for the Rangers.

Chris Kreider is the leading goal scorer for New York with five, while Andrew Copp has scored four. The leader in assists is Mika Zibanejad with eight and Adam Fox has seven. The points leader is Zibanejad with 11 and Fox is second with 10. Igor Shesterkin is 4-3 with a goals-against average of 3.42 and save percentage of .911. New York is scoring an average of 3.63 goals per game and allowing an average of 3.88 goals per game during the playoffs.

Carolina looks to keep home ice advantage with a victory on Friday in Game 2. Carolina’s Sebastian Aho scored in the third period to tie the game and send it into overtime where Ian Cole scored the winner although the Hurricanes were outplayed the entire game. Antti Raanta made 27 saves in goal for Carolina which kept Carolina within one goal until the Hurricanes were able to tie it in the third. 

Vincent Trocheck, Seth Jarvis, Sebastian Aho, Nino Niedrreiter and Andrei Svechnikov each have scored three goals for Carolina during the playoffs. The leader in assists is Tony DeAngelo with seven and DeAngelo and Teuvo Teravainen are the co-leaders in points with eight each. Antti Raanta is 4-2 with a goals against average of 2.13 and save percentage of .933. Carolina is scoring an average of 3.25 goals per game, while the Hurricanes are allowing an average of 2.63 goals per game during the playoffs.

The New York Rangers played very well in Game 1 of the series only to come up short with a loss in overtime, but will bounce back with a victory on the road in Game 2 on Friday. The visiting (NYR) team has won four out of the last five between the Rangers and Hurricanes and New York has won 35 of the last 52 overall against Carolina.
