Last Updated: 03/17/2023 at 10:50 PM ET

This Saturday night the New York Islanders will head to the SAP Center, where they will meet the San Jose Sharks. The Islanders are currently in fifth place in the Metropolitan, having a record of 35-27-8. New York is coming off of a 6-3 win against the Ducks on Wednesday, Illya Sorokin made 20 saves in the win. Kyle Palmieri had a career night against Anaheim, scoring a goal and 3 assists.

Illya Sorokin is projected to be the starting goaltender for the Islanders on Saturday, he has a 24-19-6 record thus far. Brock Nelson leads the Islanders in points this year, he currently sits with 65 points through 70 games. Newly acquired Bo Horvat has the most goals on New York's roster, the former Canuck has scored 36 goals in just 67 games played.

The San Jose Sharks sit all the way at the bottom in the Pacific at the eight seed, the Sharks have a 19-36-14 record this season. San Jose has been brutal as of late, losing five consecutive games coming into Saturday. The Sharks dropped 2-1 in overtime against Seattle on Thursday, William Eklund was the lone goal scorer for the Sharks.

San Jose is expected to start James Reimer in the net against the Islanders, Reimer has a 10-17-7 record. Erik Karlsson has been one of the few bright spots for San Jose this year, he has 85 points in 65 games and is currently the clear frontrunner for the Norris trophy.

The San Jose Shake are bottom in the league for goals scored and goals against, it's no surprise they can't win games. As usual, the Islanders are a great defensive team that makes their opponents work for even a scoring opportunity. Expect this to be a low scoring game but for the Islanders to come out on top. Final score prediction, Islanders win 3-1.
