The Washington Capitals have got to maintain their great game play if they want to stay on top of the division. The Capitals with Ovechkin, Holtby, and Backstrom have found themselves sitting back on top of the Metro Division and look to be pulling away, but the Penguins have been looking decent lately and the Blue Jackets are still a team that cannot be discounted.
On the season so far, the Capitals have 3 straight losses, but they are still seeing Ovechkin lead the team in scoring with 46 points of which 30 of them are goals. The leading assist player for the Capitals has been Nicklas Backstrom with 34 assist on the year.
The Red Wings started to look like a decent team on the year, but then they had a massive losing streak and have seemingly free fallen almost all the way to the basement of the Atlantic. What else is not helping the Red Wings is the fact they have been struggling defensively on the season and while they have not really had a lot of major injuries they have had some minor injuries that have added up on the season.
Leading the scoring on the year for the Red Wings has been Dylan Larkin who has managed to get 40 points on the year with 18 goals on the season. The Red Wings have relied on Gustav Nyquist to pass the puck as he has 25 assist on the season.
