The Houston Texans are set to visit AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas for a Week 3 preseason clash against the Dallas Cowboys. The Houston Texans come into this matchup with a 1-1 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent game against the Detroit Lions, 30-23. Joe Webb III looks like the primary backup QB, and he showed his capabilities against the Lions as he connected on 14 of his 25 attempts for 186 yards, 1 TD, and 1 interception. Buddy Howell is looking to step into a bigger role at the RB position, and he had a big game against Detroit as he ran for 84 yards and a TD on 15 carries.

The Houston Texans will need to be much better on the defensive side of the ball if they want to win out the preseason as they allowed the Lions to score 23 points. Derrick Baity Jr. had a big game from the secondary for the Houston Texas as he contributed a team-high 6 tackles, 1 interception, and 2 pass deflections. Whitney Mercilus saw limited time due to already having a solidified role on the team, but he showed his pass rush capabilities with a sack against the Lions. The Dallas Cowboys come into this game with a 1-1 record, and they will be looking to continue their success after winning their recent game against the Los Angeles Rams, 14-10. Cooper Rush is fighting for the backup QB spot, and he showed his knowledge of the offense with a solid performance as he connected on 10 of his 16 attempts for 83 yards and a TD. Rookie RB Tony Pollard looks ready to step into a big role this season for Dallas as he contributed 42 rushing yards and a TD against Los Angeles.

The Dallas Cowboys were good on the defensive side of the ball against the Los Angeles Rams, especially in the second half as they held them scoreless. LB Justin March-Lillard is looking to land on the roster, and he took a step in the right direction as he contributed a team-high 9 tackles. Rookie LB Justin Phillips has continued to develop throughout the preseason, and he put together an all-around performance against the Rams as he had 7 tackles and an interception.

Both of these teams have had inconsistent showings during the preseason which is why the spread is just about even, but I like the home team to prevail in the battle of Texas. As the preseason is going deeper and deeper it looks like the Cowboys will not be receiving back the services of all-pro RB Ezekiel Elliot which means more reps for rookie Tony Pollard who has had a good first 2 games. The Texans have used the swiss army knife in Joe Webb in the backup QB role, and I just don’t think he is an NFL QB which will be proven against a very good Cowboys defense. Final Score Prediction, Dallas Cowboys win and cover ATS 21-17.
