Texans at Chiefs 8/9/18 - NFL Preseason Picks & Predictions

The Houston Texas could have marked improvement in 2018 following a 4-12 season in 2017. Second-year quarterback Deshaun Watson will start the season fully recovered from last season’s ACL injury and will see some snaps during preseason to be ready for the start of the regular season. The offensive line will have new faces and they should see snaps early. On defense do not expect to see much from stars Jadeveon Clowney or all-world J.J. Watt. The Texans will be extra careful with them during the preseason. Houston could have a contender in the AFC in 2018 if they remain healthy

The Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC West a season ago, but have several questions that need to be answered entering the preseason. The biggest of all is Alex Smith is no longer the quarterback and strong-arm signal Patrick Mahomes begins his era as the Chiefs QB. Behind Mahomes will be Chad Henne and Matt McGloin fighting for the backup job. The remaining spots on offense are set with the addition of Sammy Watkins at wide out. Defensively two rookie lineman will earn playing time while two new cornerbacks will start. Last season despite injury Deshaun Watson led the Texans in passing with 1,699 yards, 19 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. The leading rusher was Lamar Miller with 888 yards and 3 touchdowns, while DeAndre Hopkins led the team in receiving with 1,378 yards and 13 touchdowns. Benardrick McKinney led the defense with 95 tackles, while Jadeveon Clowney led in sacks with 9.5 and Andre Hal led in interceptions with 3.

Patrick Mahomes threw for just 284 yards and one interception, but will start this season. The leading rusher was Kareem Hunt with 1,327 yards and 8 touchdowns, while Tyreek Hill lead all receivers with 1,183 yards and 7 touchdowns. Daniel Sorenson was the team leader in tackles with 89, while Justin Houston was the sacks leader with 9.5. The top two leaders in interceptions are no longer with the team.

Both teams will be looking at their quarterbacks with the Texans interested in Watson’s recovering and his two backups, and the Chiefs want Mahomes to see snaps early and often while also deciding on his backup. This could make for a high-scoring game as the defensive units have fewer questions marks. Final Score Prediction, Houston Texans win and cover ATS 28-24.
