Seahawks at Falcons 9/13/20 - NFL Picks, Odds, & ATS Betting Predictions

On Sunday September 13th, the Seattle Seahawks visit Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia to play the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1 of the 2020 NFL regular season. The Seahawks finished the 2019 regular season 11-5, which was good enough for second place in the very competitive NFC West. The biggest question mark hanging over the Seattle Seahawks starting the regular season is that of Jadeveon Clowney who has yet to re-sign with Seattle and could be playing elsewhere when the Seahawks kick off their regular season against the Falcons.

Seattle will have star quarterback Russell Wilson returning following a superb season where the signal-caller threw for 4,110 yards, 31 touchdowns and just five interceptions. Top running backs for the Seahawks Chris Carson and Rashaad Penny were both lost to season-ending injuries in 2019 but are expected back at 100% to start the season. Seattle added tight end Greg Olsen and linebacker BJ Finney during the off-season as well as left tackle Jorge Font and defensive lineman Kenton Jefferson. The Seahawks drafted Jordyn Brooks, a linebacker out of Texas Tech with their first pick and Edge rusher Darrell Taylor out of Tennessee with their second pick.

In 2019, the Atlanta Falcons finished second in the NFC South with an overall record of 7-9 but were six games behind the first-place New Orleans Saints. The Falcons were defeated by the Seattle Seahawks last season 27-20 but over the last four seasons the teams are 2-2 head to head. The Falcons will try to turn around a poor home season as last year they won just three of their eight home games. Under current head coach Dan Quinn the Falcons are just 2-3 in season openers with the last victory coming in 2017 against the Chicago Bears.

The Falcons re-signed running back Brian Hill who was the primary backup for starter Devonta Freeman and finished last season with 517 yards rushing and two touchdowns. Freeman is no longer with the Falcons but Atlanta signed former Los Angeles Rams star Todd Gurley making Hill the likely backup to Gurley in the backfield. Atlanta added a great deal of talent to their roster through the draft. In the first round the Falcons chose AJ Terrell, a cornerback with the 16th pick overall, followed by Marlon Davidson, a defensive tackle from Auburn in the second round while adding center Matt Hennessey in the third round. The Falcons also signed free agents Khari Lee, Edmond Robinson, LaRoy Reynolds, Justin McCray, and Laquon Treadwell amongst others

Although the Falcons will have a much more balanced roster on both sides of the ball, Seattle has veteran quarterback Russell Wilson, two strong running backs and one of the better head coaches in the NFL in Pete Carroll. Seattle will battle with both the Los Angeles Rams and defending NFC West Champion San Francisco 49ers for the division title and will begin the season with a victory over the Falcons. Final Score Prediction, Seattle Seahawks win and cover ATS 28-23
