On Sunday, the defending NFC Champion Los Angeles Rams visit the Carolina Panthers in Week 1 of the 2019 NFL regular season at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The core of last season’s team remains in place for the Rams with Jared Goff under center, Todd Gurley II in the backfield and Brandin Cooks, Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods at wide out. Gurley may have an arthritic knee but with or without the star running back the Rams offense will be potent. The league’s best defensive player Aaron Donald returns to anchor that side of the ball for the Rams.
Cam Newton has a sprained foot but the Panthers star quarterback is expected to start against the Rams. Carolina won its final preseason game on Thursday beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 25-19. Carolina has problems on the offensive line due to injuries and that could affect the offense against the pressure from Aaron Donald and Company.
Last season Jared Goff threw for 4,688 yards, 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The leading running back was Todd Gurley II with 1,251 yards and 17 touchdowns and Gurley missed most of the final two games of the regular season. Robert Woods was the leading receiver with 1,219 yards and six touchdowns.
Cam Newton is coming of a 2018 season in which he threw for 3,395 yards, 24 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Christian McCaffrey led all running backs in 2018 with 1,098 yards and seven touchdowns. The leading receiver was McCaffrey with 107 receptions for 867 yards and six touchdowns.

The Panthers have concerns on the offensive line as some starters are banged up and there is not much depth. Cam Newton is likely to start, but could be affected by a sprained foot.
