MetLife Stadium will play host to a Friday night NFL preseason battle between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New York Jets. The Eagles stumbled to a 4-11-1 record a season ago and decided to trade QB Carson Wentz to Indianapolis. Philadelphia will rely on QB Jalen Hurts, who failed to complete more than 57 percent of his passes in any start during his rookie season. To boost a lackluster receiving corps, Philadelphia selected WR DeVonta Smith with the 10th overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft.
On Thursday, Philadelphia was outgained by 323 total yards and turned the ball over three times during an ugly 35-0 home loss versus New England. Joe Flacco threw for 83 yards and an interception for the Eagles.
The New York Jets lost 14 of their 16 games a season ago and appeared to be headed to win the Trevor Lawrence sweepstakes. Sadly, the Jets were unable to tank correctly and ended up with QB Zach Wilson with the number two overall pick in the draft. New York lacks quality options at the skill position, but has an improving offensive line that features T Mekhi Becton and the 14th overall pick G Alijah Vera-Tucker.
On Saturday, New York kept Green Bay off the scoreboard during the second half of a 23-14 road victory. QB Zach Wilson shined by completing 9 of his 11 passes for 128 yards and two touchdowns.
