Philadelphia Eagles 2018-19 - NFL Season Preview & Future Odds Predictions

The defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles will be defending the title for the first time in franchise history and have the talent returning to possibly win a second straight Lombardi Trophy. The team enters the preseason deep in talent at all skill positions and are strong favorites to win the NFC East for the second straight season and return to the Super Bowl. Last season the Eagles finished 13-3 winning the NFC East by four games over Dallas. Last season rookie quarterback Carson Wentz was lost on December 10 with an ACL tear and most thought the Eagles season was over. However, Nick Foles stepped up and helped lead the Eagles to the championship and won the MVP award for the Super Bowl. Wentz will start the season under center if his knee is fully healed, but the Eagles know Foles is there to start of Wentz cannot or to back him up if things go wrong. Alshon Jeffery returns as the top receiver, while Nelson Agholor will be the No. 2 wide out. Mike Wallace was signed after he left the Ravens, which gives the offense a deep threat and stretches opposing defenses a big more. Zach Ertz at tight end is the ace in the hole for the Eagles offense. He quite possibly is the best in the league as this position. Trey Burton left to find more money and Brent Celek was released so a rookie will back up Ertz. Jay Ajayi returns at running back, while Josh Adams was drafted out of Notre Dame and Darren Sproles was re-signed, giving the Eagles plenty of choices in the offensive backfield. The offensive line returns intact from last season.

Last season the Eagles were fourth overall in the league in defense and first against the run. The Eagles had 38 QB sacks and 19 interceptions. Nearly everyone returns and Jordan Hicks at linebacker should be healthy again. Haloti Ngata, a run stopper and Michael Bennett a veteran who enjoyed much success with Seattle, were added for depth. Derek Barnett enjoyed a strong rookie season at defensive end and should be better in 2018. Vinny Curry is gone, but with the addition of Bennett, his absence will have minimal impact. If Timmy Jernigan recovers fully from back surgery, the unit with its new additions could be better than last season.

The Eagles are expected by odds makers to win 10.5 games. This number seems quite low considering the team is almost identical to last season and its rivals in the NFC East are not that much better than they were a season ago. Two coaches left to coach elsewhere but the team itself is almost identical. When Wentz is back to 100% he is one of the top 5 QBS in the game today and with the weapons he has it is difficult to key on just one. Look for Philly to win the NFC East and take a deep run into the postseason. At least 12 wins and easy over 10.5 Wins for Philadelphia Eagles for 2018-19 Season.
