Patriots at Jaguars 9/16/18 - NFL Picks & Predictions

The New England Patriots visit TIAA Bank Field in Jacksonville, Florida in Week 2 of the NFL regular season to play the Jacksonville Jaguars in a rematch of last season’s AFC Championship Game.

New England opened its season with a 27-20 win over the Houston Texans. Tom Brady passed for 277 yards and three touchdowns, while tight end Rob Gronkowski finished with 123 passing yards and one TD. The defense held off a late charge by the Texans to preserve the win.

Jacksonville defeated the New York Giants 20-15 on Sunday. The Jaguars used a strong defense to carry the team to victory. Myles Jack returned an interception 32 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth quarter as Jacksonville held on for a 5-point victory. Top running back Leonard Fournette injured his hamstring during the first half and the Jaguars listed Fournette as day-to-day on the injury report. Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has 277 yards passing, three touchdowns and one interception. The leading rusher is Rex Burkhead with 64 yards. Rob Gronkowski leads all receivers with 123 yards and one touchdown, while Phillip Dorsett finished with 66 yards receiving and one touchdown. Stephon Gilmore leads the Patriots in tackles with eight, while Trey Flowers is the sacks leader with 1.5.

Jaguars quarterback Blake Bortles has 176 yards passing, one touchdown and one interception. T.J. Yeldon leads the Jaguars in rushing with 51 yards, while Keelan Cole is the leading receiver with 54 yards. The lone receiving touchdown was caught by T.J. Yeldon. The leading tackler for the Jaguars is Myles Jack with 10, while Calais Campbell and Lerentee McCray are the sacks leaders with 1.0 apiece.

While the Jacksonville defense appears to be on track to duplicate its fine play of last season, the offense remains its weak link. Blake Bortles threw for just 176 yards while star running back Leonard Fournette is questionable for Sunday’s game with a hamstring injury. The Patriots continue to win with Tom Brady tossing three touchdowns passes and the defense stepped up when it needed to most late in the game. Final Score Prediction, New England Patriots win and cover ATS 23-16.
