In week one NFL preseason action, the Carolina Panthers will travel to to New Era Field to battle the Buffalo Bills. Last season, the Panthers won 11 games and were bounced by New Orleans in the Wild Card round of the playoffs. Carolina lost both games against New Orleans during the regular season and comes in focused to supplant the Saints as NFC South Division champions.

Cam Newton is in his eighth season as the signal caller for the Panthers and is coming off a season in which he rushed for a career high 754 yards. Newton’s primary option will be second year running back Christian McCaffrey, who caught 80 balls in his rookie campaign. Carolina TE Greg Olsen missed most of last year with a foot injury, but has been Newton’s security blanket in years past.
The Buffalo Bills broke a 17-year postseason drought by winning nine games and reaching the playoffs last year. Buffalo stood toe-to-toe with Jacksonville in the division round before bowing out after a 10-3 defeat. The Bills drafted Wyoming QB Josh Allen with the seventh pick and hope to build their offense around the strong-armed prospect.

Former Alabama offensive coordinator Brian Daboll took the same position with the Bills in the offseason and figures to lean heavily on All-Pro RB Lesean McCoy. The Bills have ranked first in rushing twice in the three years since McCoy has been on the squad. Former Carolina WR Kelvin Benjamin figures to be the top target in the passing game.

Buffalo head coach Sean McDermott did a masterful job in his first year at the helm by ending the franchise’s playoff drought. His next project will be to turn rookie QB Josh Allen into a future star. Look for Buffalo to win and cover at home on Thursday night. Final Score Prediction, Buffalo Bills win and cover ATS 20-13.
