New York Jets - 2019 Season Preview & Predictions

Year two of the Sam Darnold era is set to begin, as the New York Jets look to improve on a 4-12 record in the quarterback’s rookie season. Darnold showed flashes during his first season, throwing for 2,865 yards to go along with 17 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. The top weapon for Darnold in the passing game is Robby Anderson, who hauled in 50 passes for 752 yards and six touchdowns last season.

The buzz around the New York training camp revolves around free agent signee, Le’veon Bell, who sat out all of last year. Bell is one of the most talented dual threat running backs in the league and will be motivated to prove the Steelers wrong behind what should be an above average offensive line. For the Jets to reach the postseason, first year head coach Adam Gase will have the most work to do on the defensive side of the ball. New York started their overhaul by drafting DT Quinnen Williams with the number three pick in the NFL Draft to play next to dominant DT Leonard Williams. Jachai Polite was selected in the third round to provide a boost to a lackluster Jets’ pass rush.

New York signed LB C.J. Mosley to a five-year, $85 million dollar contract during the offseason to solidify the run defense. CB Trumaine Johnson is the most talented player in the secondary, but has suffered a hamstring injury that could be a crushing blow.

Sam Darnold possesses the moxie to be a successful quarterback in New York and he now has the weapons around him to make a playoff run. The early part of the schedule is difficult, but the Jets have a very navigable second-half. Take New York to challenge for an AFC East Division title and go over their projected win total. Final Season Prediction, New York Jets Over 7.5 Wins.
