New York Giants at Jacksonville Jaguars 10/23/22 - NFL Picks & Predictions

The Jacksonville Jaguars host the New York Giants for an interconference game Oct. 23. The Jaguars and Giants last played in 2018, with Jacksonville winning 20-15.

The Giants are 5-1 overall and 1-0 on the road both straight up and against the spread. The Jaguars are 2-4 overall and 1-1 at home both SU and ATS.

New York has won three straight games after losing to Dallas, 23-16, at home in Week 3. The Giants beat Chicago, 20-12, the next week, then Green Bay, 27-22, in Week 5 and Baltimore, 24-20.

Jacksonville has lost three in a row after opening the season 2-1. After beating the Chargers, 38-10, in Los Angeles in Week 3, the Jaguars have lost 29-21 at Philadelphia, 13-6 at home to Houston and 34-27 at Indianapolis.

New York has done far better running the ball than throwing it this season. The Giants rank 31st in the league with just 154.3 passing yards a game and 25th overall with 317.3 total yards a game. Their 163 rushing ypg ranks fourth. They have averaged 21.2 points per game. New York’s defense is 15th in the league with 339.3 yards allowed per game. It has been better against the pass (194.5 ypg, 8th) than the run (144.8, 28th). The Giants have allowed 18.8 points per game to rank seventh.

Jacksonville has thrown for 221.2 ypg (21st) and run for 136.7 ypg (9th) totaling 357.8 yards offense per contest (11th). The Jaguars have scored an average of 23 points a game to rank 16th. Jacksonville’s defense has allowed 333.8 ypg (11th) but just 89.3 rushing ypg, third-best in the league. It has allowed 244.5 passing ypg (21st). The Jaguars have allowed 19 points a game (9th).

Jacksonville’s defensive may be a little overrated given who they’ve played and game script. Good running teams haven’t had a problem yards, and the Texans got 116 the next week with rookie running back Dameon Pierce going for 86 yards. The Colts, without Jonathan Taylor in Week 6, ran just 29 times over two games, and the pass-happy Chargers ran just 12 times. Saquon Barkley should have little trouble slipping past Jacksonville defenders and lead the Giants to victory. Final Score Prediction: New York Giants win and cover 23-20.
