New York Giants 2019 Season Preview - NFL Picks & Predictions

Last Updated: 08/13/2019 at 10:43 AM ET

The New York Giants have won eight games total over the last two seasons and are looking to turn things around for an impatient fan base. Veteran QB Eli Manning has won two Super Bowls, but has regressed greatly over the last few years. The Giants used the sixth overall pick of the draft to select Manning’s replacement, QB Daniel Jones out of Duke.

Odell Beckham Jr. was traded to Cleveland in the offseason, leaving New York was very few capable options in the passing game. The Giants will be forced to lean heavily on second-year RB Saquon Barkley, who rushed for 1,307 and 11 touchdowns last season.

New York ranked 24th in total defense last year and traded away two of their most talented defensive players. Pass rushing specialist Olivier Vernon is gone and the Giants will struggle to generate pressure off the edge. Rookie DT Dexter Lawrence will be counted on to clog up the run game.

The Giants also lost S Landon Collins in free agency to NFC East Division rival Washington. S Jabril Peppers was acquired in the Beckham trade, but is not as talented as Collins.

New York has won one game in the first half of each of the last two seasons, so getting off to a better start is paramount. An improved offensive line will benefit Manning and Barkley is good enough to carry the team to a few wins on his own. Take the Giants to win 7-8 games and gain some momentum heading into the Daniel Jones era. Final Season Prediction, New York Giants Over 5.5 Wins.
