New Orleans Saints - 2019 Season Preview

Everything went right for the New Orleans Saints last season, until a missed pass interference in the NFC Championship Game cost them a trip to the Super Bowl. Forty year old QB Drew Brees continues to run the New Orleans offense with machine like precision and threw for 32 touchdowns in 2018. WR Michael Thomas hauled in a franchise record for receiving yards (1,405), but the Saints lack a legitimate number two option in the receiving corps.

New Orleans RB Alvin Kamara is one of the most dynamic players in the league and will see even more touches with Mark Ingram departing for Baltimore. There are questions on the offensive line, but there is no denying that the Saints will continue to rank near the top of the league in scoring.

As Drew Brees has advanced in age, New Orleans head coach Sean Payton has leaned more and more on a much improved defense. Last season, New Orleans ranked second in the league in rushing yards allowed and held their opponents to 22 points on average. DT Sheldon Rankins tore his Achilles in the playoffs against Philadelphia and will leave a huge void on the defensive line.

The Saints are vulnerable in the secondary and allowed 270 yards per game through the air. Third-year CB Marshon Lattimore is one of the best players at his position, but New Orleans lacks quality players to compliment him.

Pass interference is now something that coaches can challenge, but that is no consolation for the Saints. This team was good enough to win it all last season and now will have to try to regroup mentally. In a division that features Atlanta and Carolina, I don’t see a repeat performance happening for New Orleans. Final Season Prediction, New Orleans Saints Under 10.5 Wins.
