On Friday, the Minnesota Vikings visit the Kansas City Chiefs in the final game of the 2021 NFL preseason for both. Minnesota is 0-2 in the preseason following its 12-10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts on Saturday. Minnesota played mainly backups on defense and Troy Dye had a 33-yard pick 6 for the Vikings. Kirk Cousins, who saw his first action in the preseason, played just three series and passed for 23 yards while being sacked once.
Minnesota's offense must work on its third down conversion as the Vikings converted just two of 13 third downs. Jake Browning took over for Cousins and passed for 82 yards while rookie signal-caller Kellen Mond also saw action passing for 61 yards. Head coach Mike Zimmer said in all likelihood the starters on offense will play on Friday against Kansas City. The Vikings are taking a long look at the defensive secondary as only three players Eric Kendricks, Anthony Barr and Nick Vigil are sure of starting roles.
Kansas City continued its winning ways during the preseason following a 17-10 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Friday. Patrick Mahomes played well while seeing limited action, and backups Shane Buechele and Chad Henne both had strong outings as well, with each passing for a touchdown. Byron Pringle had four receptions for 63 yards. Juan Thornhill intercepted an Arizona pass late in the second quarter to stop a potential scoring drive for the Cardinals.
Kansas City running back Daryl Williams was injured in the second quarter and did not return after suffering a possible concussion. Wide receiver Tyreek Hill took part in warmups prior to the game but did not play because of a hamstring issue. Kansas City head coach Andy Reid is expected to have his starters on offense and defense playing at least the first half of the game on Friday against Minnesota.
