Miami Dolphins at New England Patriots 9/13/20 - NFL Picks, Odds, & Predictions

Last Updated: 09/03/2020 at 12:24 AM ET

On Sunday September 13th, the Miami Dolphins will visit Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts for the opening game of the NFL regular season against AFC East rival the New England Patriots. Miami finished the regular season in 2019 with a record of 5-11 and were last in the AFC East. A new era appears on the horizon in Miami as the Dolphins chose Tua Tagovailoa with their first pick in the NFL draft and the versatile quarterback is expected to start for the Dolphins as quickly as Week 1 against the New England Patriots.  Tua will don the No. 1 jersey becoming the first Dolphins player to wear that number as a signal-caller.

During the offseason the Dolphins promoted Josh Boyer to defensive coordinator and named Chan Gailey as the offensive coordinator while Bobby Brown became the quarterbacks coach. After the NFL draft, the Dolphins traded with the San Francisco 49ers to acquire running back Matt Breida and besides drafting Tagovailoa with their first pick, Miami added  tackle Austin Jackson and cornerback Noah Igbinoghene with their three first round picks. The Dolphins signed free agents Byron Jones, Kyle Van Noy, Jordan Howard, Emmanuel Ogbah, Shaq Lawson, Ereck Flowers, Clayton Fejedelem, Ted Karras, Kamu Grieger-Hill, and Adrian Colbert.

A new era begins in Foxboro, Massachusetts on September 13th as the New England Patriots open the season without Tom Brady on the roster for the first time in 21 years. Following 20 seasons with the Patriots, Brady signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. New England's new starting quarterback will be Jarrett Stidham who has very little experience after playing backup to Brady last season as a rookie. Little has changed on the Patriots roster with the exception of Brady leaving.

After losing Tom Brady, the Patriots signed free agent quarterback Brian Hoyer and have since signed Beau Allen, Damiere Byrd, Danny Vitale, Brandon Copeland, and Cody Davis. New England’s first pick in the draft was in the second round and the Patriots selected safety Kyle Dugger and then took linebacker Josh Uche with their second pick. The Patriots selected three linebackers and a safety in their seven rounds of the draft adding to an already stellar defense. Two tight ends Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene were also drafted by New England with both being picked in the second round.

Miami has added Tua Tagovailoa as their franchise quarterback while also adding several important pieces to their defense and although the Dolphins will likely not reach the postseason in 2020, they will finish much better and be more competitive in the AFC East than in the recent past. Nonetheless, the Patriots will win at home under new quarterback Stidham, but the Jets will cover. Final Score Prediction, New England Patriots win but fall short ATS 20-17
