Rams vs Lions Picks and Prediction – 9/9/2024

The Los Angeles Rams are going to be on the road to open up the NFL season to face the Detroit Lions on Sunday night. The Rams finished the preseason on a winning record at 2-1. The loss for the Rams was against the Texans by a score of 17-15. However, the other 2 wins were low scoring as well with a 13-12 win over the Cowboys and a 13-9 win over the Chargers.

The Rams are bringing back Matthew Stafford to start at the quarterback position. Last season Stafford went 326/521 for 3,965 yards with 24 touchdowns, but only 11 picks. The starting running back is Kyren Williams who ran the ball for 228 times last year with 1,144 yards and 12 touchdowns. The downside is the offensive line for the Rams is banged up or suspended with a starting tackle suspended and two players listed as questionable. 

For the Detroit Lions they finished the preseason sitting on a record of 2-1. The loss was against the Giants by a score of 14-3. However, the Lions did pick up wins over the Chiefs (24-23) and the Steelers by a score of 24-17. 

The starting quarterback for Detroit is projected to be Jared Goff. Last year Goff went 407/605 for 4,575 yards on the year. However, Goff did get a total of 30 touchdowns and only threw a total of 12 picks. The starting running back for the Lions is projected to be David Montgomery who carried the ball 219 times for 1,015 yards. Montgomery did end up getting a total of 13 touchdowns in the season.

These two teams might as well have a major quarterback rivalry. That could be a major factor coming into this game here. However, with the banged up offensive line and the fact that the Lions seem to have the better quarterback and defense on the preseason it is easy to see the Lions picking up the win in this game here.
