Los Angeles Chargers - 2019 Season Preview

Last Updated: 08/13/2019 at 10:44 AM ET

The Los Angeles Chargers are coming off a 12-win regular season and lost to eventual Super Bowl Champion New England in the playoffs. Veteran QB Philip Rivers continues to get better with age, throwing for 4,308 yards and 32 touchdowns last year. WR Keenen Allen is a nightmare to cover and Rivers continues to have outstanding chemistry with him. WR Mike Williams and TE Hunter Henry give Rivers two big red-zone targets.

The weakness of the Los Angeles offense is clearly on the offensive line and was exposed in the playoff loss at New England. RB Melvin Gordon has requested a trade, but the Chargers have Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson to fill the void if Gordon leaves.

Los Angeles ranked ninth in yards allowed in 2018 and have tremendous star-power on the defensive side of the ball. DE Joey Bosa has recorded 28.5 sacks over the last three seasons and Melvin Ingram has 18.5 sacks in the last two years, DT Jerry Tillery was drafted in the first round to help address a rush defense that was gashed by New England in the playoffs.

The most talented player on the Los Angeles defense could be S Derwin James, who had 105 tackles in his rookie season. Former Carolina LB Thomas Davis was signed in the offseason to improve a weak linebacking corps.

The Los Angeles Chargers changed the poor luck that has haunted them over the last few seasons and showed that they are one of the most talented teams in football. The schedule is favorable for the Chargers and Rivers will have his team right back in the mix for an AFC West Division title. Look for Los Angeles to win 10-11 games this season. Final Season Prediction, Los Angeles Chargers Over 9.5 Wins.
