The Kansas City Chiefs visit the Arizona Cardinals in week 2 of the NFL preseason on Friday. Kansas City opened its preseason with a 19-16 victory over the San Francisco 49ers. Kansas City played all but one of its 22 starters with the exception being linebacker Willie Gay who did not see any action. Chiefs Linebacker Darius Harris hurt his hand and did not return.
Kansas City star quarterback Patrick Mahomes has played only one series but is expected to see more action on Friday against Arizona. Mahomes played behind a completely overhauled offensive line that has five new starters of which three have never played in an NFL regular season game. Mahomes completed one pass in his four plays and threw an incompletion on third down. Chiefs backup quarterback Anthony Gordon passed for 79 yards and helped to rally the Chiefs from a first half deficit to the win.
Arizona opened its preseason last Friday with a 19-16 victory over the Dallas Cowboys. Rookie linebacker Zaven Collins played well in the middle and Matt Prater kicked one field goal to tie the game and a second to win it for the Cardinals. Cardinals starter quarterback Kyler Murray did not play. Eno Benjamin scored a 6-yard touchdown for the Cardinals. Colt McCoy, who started at quarterback for Arizona, passed for 69 yards.
Chris Streveler took over for Colt McCoy and completed 12 of 24 passes for 107 yards and Streveler and McCoy will once again see most of the action on Friday against Kansas City although Kyler Murray is expected to play. Cardinals running back Jonathan Ward injured his ankle in the third quarter, while safety Chris Banjo left the game with a hamstring injury.
