The Kansas City Chiefs had a changing of the guard during the offseason as Alex Smith was traded to the Washington Redskins and the Patrick Mahomes era began. The Chiefs picked up Kendall Fuller a cornerback and a third round pick in the draft for Smith. Mahomes is unproven and will start the season with the weight of Kansas City on his shoulders.

The Chiefs played poorly on defense last season and lost their top cornerback Marcus Peters, which places added pressure on the young signal caller and makes the margin for error even smaller for the offense.

The Chiefs Mahomes has a cannon for an arm and can run but is he ready for the NFL and will he be able to limit his turnovers. Those questions will soon be answered.

Mahomes will have plenty of help from deep Chiefs skilled positions. Tyreek Hill at wide out is one of the leagues fastest players, who is a deep threat each time he steps on the field which makes him a perfect fit for Mahomes who loves to go deep as often as possible.
Joining Hill is Sammy Watkins. Watkins was a flop with the Bills followed by the Rams, but is healthy and he and Hill will make any secondary shake in fear. Tight end Travis Kelce is amongst the best in the NFL. Demarcus Robinson and Chris Conley give the Kansas City receivers corps depth.

The Chiefs running attack will be all about Kareem Hunt, who led the league in rushing last season as a rookie. However, he tired out down the stretch last season. Spencer Ware returning from injury will help Hunt as he give much needed breathers to Hunt.

Kansas CIty offensive line is anchored by tackles Mitchell Schwartz and Eric Fisher. Both right guard Laurent Duvernay-Tardif and center Mitch Morse were slowed by injuries and must remain healthy. Bryan Witzmann and Cameron Erving are the only quality depth on the line.

A lack of stopping the run between the tackles and no consistent pass rush hurt the Chiefs defense. The Chiefs 3-4 returns from last season and should be stronger with changes made during the offseason.

The secondary lost Peters and three other corners were let go through free agency while Ron Parker a free safety was cut. Eric Berry returning as strong safety will help but he is coming off a serious injury. Armani Watts a rookie could see action from the start. The pickup of Fuller in the trade for Smith will give much needed strength in the secondary. David Amerson, formerly with the Raiders and Steven Nelson, round out the secondary.

The Chiefs like the linebacker core of Anthony Hitchens and Reggie Ragland inside, with Dorian O’Daniel chosen during the third round given them a solid replacement. Justin Houston, who is considered a top outside linebacker, will rush more like a defensive end than linebacker as will Dee Ford on the opposite side.

The Chiefs front line needed the most improvement of all. Chris Jones and Allen Bailey return to anchor the line, while Jarvis Jenkins and Rakeem Nunez-Roches will back them up. Inside Xavier Williams takes over as a replacement for Dontari Poe. Williams must occupy blockers to provide open spaces for the linebackers and ends to work their magic.

The Chiefs have won two straight AFC West titles but odds makers are not that confident in Mahomes and have given the Chiefs 8.5 for a win total. Everything revolves around the new signal caller. If Mahomes is able to protect the ball, make sound decisions and master the difficult Andy Reid playbook, the Chiefs will battle the Raiders and Chargers for the West title For our official prediction were thinking 8-8 for Chiefs this year so lets play the under.
